Discovery Kids en Español To Provide Programming Support To Educate On the Importance Of College.

Discovery Kids en Español and the Hispanic Scholarship Fund (HSF) have entered into a unique marketing and sponsorship agreement to help advance HSF’s goal of increasing the number of Hispanic Americans earning college degrees. Discovery Kids en Español will serve as a media partner for HSF, providing programming and marketing resources in support of the organization’s overall mission.

“We’re proud to help the Hispanic Scholarship Fund further its goal of increasing the number of college-educated Hispanic Americans,” said Luis Silberwasser, senior vice president and general manager of Discovery’s U.S. Hispanic Networks Group. “We recognize higher education as one of the most important issues facing U.S. Hispanic families and we look forward to using the platform of Discovery Kids en Español to help inspire students and families to fulfill the dreams that only high school and college can afford.”

“By demonstrating to Latino children and parents that a college education is attainable and by showcasing real-life examples of HSF scholarship success stories, we believe we can help double the rate of Hispanics earning a college degree to 18 percent by 2010,” said Sara Martinez Tucker, president and CEO of the Hispanic Scholarship Fund. “Given Discovery’s solid reputation for quality, educational programming and the all-family audience Discovery Kids en Español attracts, we feel this is a natural fit to help further our mission.”

Discovery Kids en Español will air HSF public service announcements and create a series of interstitials highlighting the five 2005 Hispanic Scholarship Fund Alumni “Hall of Fame” inductees, who are: Myra Blanco, Ph.D., Research Scientist, Virginia Tech Transportation Institute; Martín Curiel, Management Consultant, Deloitte Consulting; Luis Colon, Ph.D., Professor of Chemistry, State University of New York at Buffalo; Dr. Elsa A. Murano, Vice Chancellor and Dean, Agriculture and Life Sciences, Texas A&M University; and The Honorable Federico Pena, Managing Partner, Vestar Capital Partners. The profiles honor the outstanding achievements of these successful U.S. Latino HSF recipients by focusing on their inspirational stories and the positive impact HSF had on their lives and careers.
