“I am thrilled to be part of the Univision Network again as the weekend anchor on ‘Noticiero Univision’ and am honored to be working with such a renowned team of journalists. My time spent as the news anchor on TeleFutura has been very rewarding and I look forward to continuing to provide our viewers with the most relevant and important news that impacts the Hispanic community,” said Schmidt about her new role.
Schmidt began her career in broadcast journalism as a news correspondent in Puerto Rico with WSJN-TV (Ch.24), a 24-hour local news channel, and was quickly promoted to weekend news anchor. In 2000, Schmidt was named national correspondent for Univision Network News, covering Chicago and the Midwest. She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree and has completed a Master’s program in Journalism from Iowa State University.
Regarding the recent appointment of Edna Schmidt, Univision Network’s Executive Vice President and Operating Manager Alina Falcón said “Edna has made great contributions during her tenure with the extended Univision family, and we are confident that she will continue to provide our viewers with the excellence in journalism that they have come to expect from ‘Noticiero Univision’.”
