Bustos Media Sets Up International Radiothon.
August 12, 2005
Amador S. Bustos, President and CEO of Bustos Media announced the establishment of a unique fundraising effort involving Mexico and the U.S. to benefit the victims of hurricane Katrina.
The radiothon will bring together the Latino communities on both sides of the border in an effort to provide relief to the victims of this devastating natural disaster. At the press conference, Mr. Bustos said “our community has always responded generously to this kind of disaster and we are confident this time will be no exception.”
The week-long effort will culminate with a cross-national radiothon linking Bustos’ 23 radio stations in the U.S. with Grupo Latino de Radio´s “Ke Buena” stations throughout Mexico. This international friendship radio bridge will be broadcast live on Sunday, September 11, 2005 from 12:00 Noon to 6:00 PM Pacific Time.
As part of this unique drive one of Bustos’ top personalities, Lauro Morales, known as “Mace” on the Ke-Buena Sacramento morning show has already been deployed by the American Red Cross to take on a “hardship” assignment. He is not going just to look good on camera or do radio reports. He has been assigned to drive supply delivery trucks. “I just felt compelled to do anything I could to help” explained Morales. “These people need me now. I have strength, energy and the will to do this. I have dropped everything to go face, what is likely to be, the saddest situation I have ever seen”.
“Mace is an All-American, Mexican big guy, whose heart is twice as big as his fist,” says Juan Gonzalez, Vice-President of Programming and Promotions for Bustos Media.
