ESPN Deportes Exclusive Coverage Of 2005 FIBA Americas Championship.

ESPN Deportes will feature exclusive, live coverage of the 2005 FIBA Americas Championship. The event, which starts on August 24 and culminates on September 4 in the Dominican Republic, will present ten of the best basketball teams in our hemisphere battle for one of the four available spots for the 2006 FIBA World Championship to be held in Japan.

In addition, Jose “Piculin” Ortiz, legendary Puerto Rican basketball superstar and center of the Cangrejeros de Santurce (Santurce Crabbers basketball team), has been signed to provide commentary and analysis of the games of the Puerto Rican National Team. Ortiz dominated the NCAA in the 80’s before playing in the NBA and in the Euroleague. Joining Piculin for play-by-play will be veteran ESPN Deportes announcer Alvaro Martin and Carlos Morales (analysis), former coach of the Puerto Rico National Basketball Team.

In addition, Ortiz will also act as reporter for coverage of the championship on ESPN Deportes Radio and will participate in chats on ESPNdeportes.com.

ESPN Deportes will offer onsite telecast of 13 games, featuring each of the 10 teams in the tournament – Argentina, Brazil, Canada, Dominican Republic, Mexico, Panama, Puerto Rico, United States, Uruguay and Venezuela. In addition, ESPN Deportes will also televise the semifinals and the finals.
