Telemundo’s Londoño & Magaña To Receive NAHJ Awards.

Telemundo reporters, Cristina Londoño (Sin Fronteras, Sundays 7pm ET/PT) and Connie Magaña (Noticiero Telemundo, KVEA-52, Los Angeles; M-F 6pm PT), will be recognized by the National Association of Hispanic Journalists (NAHJ) for their journalistic excellence with a 2005 Journalism Awards. The announcement was made earlier this week by the NAHJ and the winners will be honored at NAHJ’s Noche de Triunfos Journalism Awards Gala on September 15 in Washington, D.C..

The NAHJ’s “Ñ and Journalism Awards” honor excellent journalism that serves the Latino community and outstanding journalists who have covered stories ranging from the aftermath of a war-ravaged Central America to the fall of business giant Enron. Londoño will receive the award in the “Investigative News” category for the story “Violencia en Puerto Rico” (Violence in Puerto Rico); which went in-depth to find the reasons that have turned the island in the place where more violent deaths are registered in the U.S. Magaña will be recognized for her work while reporting braking news during the Mexican Consulate shooting last November 2004.

“Excellence in journalism is one of Telemundo’s pillars and both Cristina and Connie are a great example of the deep commitment we have towards informing our Hispanic community,” said Jorge Hidalgo, Senior Executive Vice President, News and Sports, Telemundo. “This is a well-deserved award and we are very proud that they are part of our excellent news team.”
