Coinciding with the June 17 release of Universal Pictures’ “The Perfect Man,” MejorAmor.com polled more than 5,800 single women in the United States and Latin America about what qualities comprise the perfect man and how to find him. MejorAmor.com builds on a four-year history of connecting Spanish-speakers across the Americas and maintains its singular focus on Latinos who are serious about finding long-term partners who share their language and culture.
“For the hundreds of thousands of single Hispanic women who are looking for a committed relationship, the Internet offers a world of infinite possibilities,” said Robert Blankenship, CEO of MejorAmor.com. “Clearly, the results of this survey indicate that there are a great deal of Hispanic women who don’t want to sit around waiting for the perfect man to suddenly appear before them, and through MejorAmor.com now have the opportunity to become the mistresses of their own destinies.”
Following are just a few highlights of the survey results:
— 40 percent of single Hispanic women surveyed say that being proactive and going out to the right places, looking for ways to improve themselves and meeting lots of people is the key to finding the perfect man. However, one-third of women say hooking up is mostly a matter of luck.
— Nearly two-thirds of Latinas cite intelligence, sense of humor, romanticism, communication skills and emotional stability as the top 5 qualities that make up the perfect man. Only 4 percent consider looks to be important, while 5 percent say they are looking for a dynamo in bed.
— 64 percent of single Latinas say that what a man does for a living is inconsequential, with engineers and bankers (24 percent) considered better prospects than teachers (3 percent).
— 70 percent of single Hispanic women have a distinct preference for Hispanic men and/or Spanish speakers. Only 14 percent say they prefer African-American, European or Asian men. Despite expressing clear preferences, 56 percent of respondents said they’re open to dating men of all races and ethnic backgrounds.
— 42 percent say they’ve made poor choices in men in the past, while one-quarter fault bad luck for being single.
— 56 percent of single Latinas believe they’ll meet the perfect man on the Internet or through friends. One third says that the key to finding a partner lies in sitting back and letting destiny work its magic.
— One percent of single Hispanic women look to astrology to determine if they’re compatible with a potential partner, while 54 percent look to their family and friends for advice. 43 percent prefer to make the decision on their own.
In Universal Pictures’ “The Perfect Man,” teenager Holly Hamilton (Hilary Duff) is tired of moving every time her single mom Jean (Heather Locklear) has another personal meltdown involving yet another second-rate guy. To distract her mother from her latest bad choice, Holly conceives the perfect plan for the perfect man…an imaginary secret admirer who will romance Jean and boost her shaky self-esteem. When the virtual relationship takes off, Holly finds herself having to produce the suitor, borrowing her friend’s charming and handsome Uncle Ben (Chris Noth) as the face behind the e-mails, notes and gifts. Holly must resort to increasingly desperate measures to keep the ruse alive and protect her mom’s newfound happiness…almost missing the real perfect man when he does come along.
Blankenship added: “Similarly to the way the young girl (Duff) in the film ‘The Perfect Man’ decides to take matters into her own hands after watching her mother hook up with less than desirable men, our members are playing an active role in finding their perfect man and through the power of the Internet are significantly increasing their chances of success.”
