FIFA World Youth Championships @ Fox Soccer Channel.

Live coverage of the FIFA World Youth Championships premiered on Fox Soccer Channel on Friday, June 10 at 2:00 p.m. ET with host country Netherlands facing Japan. Fox Soccer Channel will air 22 matches from the tournament, including all four early round games featuring the United States, the round of 16 (four matches), the quarterfinals (four matches) and semifinals (two matches), as well as live coverage of the final on July 2.

Sigi Schmid’s United States team will be making its 10th appearance (and fifth consecutive) at the World Youth Finals. The U.S. bowed out during last year’s quarterfinals at the hands of Argentina. D.C. United’s Freddy Adu and MetroStars forward Eddie Gaven, who teamed up during the Under-17 World Finals in Finland in 2003, will lead the way for the U.S. The Americans will be attempting to dethrone the defending champions, Brazil, who hold the record for most World Youth Championship titles with four.

Twenty-four countries, divided into six groups, will be participating in this year’s World Youth Championship. The United States will be competing in Group D, along with Argentina, Egypt and Germany. The Americans’ best finish in the World Youth Championship came in 1989 in Saudi Arabia when they finished fourth.
