Fusion Of Culture, Art & Silk Makes Fashion In Pineda Covalin’s Designs.
May 10, 2005
Crown Prince Felipe of Spain and his wife Princess Letizia of Asturias, Mexican President Vicente Fox and his wife Marta Sahagún de Fox, and actress Rebeca de Alba are just some of the personalities that have worn the charismatic pieces designed by Mexican designer Pineda Covalin.
During Miami Fashion Week of the Americas, held last May in Miami Beach, Pineda Covalin stole the runways while presenting its spring 2006 collection. Known across continents for taking Mexican and Latin American culture to fashion and silk, the exclusive designs intertwine myth, art, and history to offer a unique showcase that includes silk ties, scarves, sandals, dresses, blouses, and silver and silk jewelry, among other accessories.
The emblem of the company is its large silk scarves (mascadas, in Spanish) which, tied creatively, can become shirts, blouses, dresses, skirts, belts or other trendy accessories; turning one fashion accessory into a multiple wardrobe.
New in its collection are the designs inspired by famous contemporary painter Heriberto Juárez’s “Children Playing” masterpiece and a silver and silk jewelry line with modern, asymmetric necklaces, earrings, and bracelets, among others.
All these designs have an element in common; silk with predominantly fresh, bright, citric, and incandescent spring-summer colors.
Ricardo Covalín, one of the designers and co-founder of the studio, was very pleased to see the increased flow of clients visiting the Coral Gables boutique as a result of the show and the 2006 collection. “The fact that culture is intrinsically reflected on silk and fashion has been a great attraction and one which has been very well received in the U.S., sky rocketing our sales” he said. “The flow into the store just proves this was a very productive week for us.”
With stores in Miami, Madrid, Barcelona and around Mexico, Pineda Covalin has managed to position its products across museums in the USA and around the world.
