America Ferrera Returns To The Big Screen With ‘The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants’.

Two young and talented Latino actresses lead the cast of the highly anticipated Warner Bros. Pictures new film, The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants, the Honduran-American America Ferrera and the Argentinean-American Alexis Bledel. And, to top it off, the veteran actress Rachel Ticotin (Man on Fire, Total Recall), a Bronx native of Puerto Rican descent, completes the Latino presence in this film, playing America Ferrera´s mother. A top billing Latino cast for a film that breaks through common stereotypes in Hollywood films – which usually has Latinos as illegal immigrants or marginal types in society – presenting these Latinas as true members of American society, without having to renounce their roots and cultural heritage.

Directed by Ken Kwapis, with a screenplay by Delia Ephron and Elizabeth Chandler, The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants, based on Ann Brashares’ best-selling novel, is about a special summer in the lives of four lifelong friends who are separated for the first time. On a shopping trip, they find a pair of thrift-shop jeans that fits each of them perfectly and decide to use these pants as a way of keeping in touch over the months ahead, each one wearing the jeans for a week to see what luck they bring her before sending them on to the next. Though miles apart, the four friends still experience life, love and loss together in a summer they’ll never forget.

America Ferrera, whose breakthrough performance in cult independent film Real Women Have Curves, made her an international star, plays Carmen, a young woman whose parents are divorced, her mother is Puerto Rican (Rachel Ticotin) and her father is Anglo (Bradley Whitford), and whose dream is to become a writer. Carmen is undoubtedly the leader of the group, but each of the young girls has her own distinctive personality and ambitions. Alexis Bledel (Gilmore Girls, Sin City), plays Tina, a young woman of Greek descent, whose shyness evaporates when she meets a young Greek man in the bucolic landscapes of the Greek Islands, who introduces her to the delights of first love, but not without first overcoming the fierce opposition of both their families who happen to be lifelong enemies. Ferrera and Bledel are also joined by two very talented young actresses: Amber Tamblyn (Joan of Arcadia), who plays the rebellious and sarcastic Tibby, whose passion for video takes an unexpected t! urn when she meets the unforgettable Bailey; and Blake Lively, in an impressive big screen debut, as Bridget, whose adventures take her to a soccer camp in Mexico. These four young women will have life altering experiences- each in their own very special way – and along with them, the viewer, young or young at heart, will also be transformed.

Alcon Entertainment presents The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants, opening nationwide June 1, 2005. The film will be distributed worldwide by Warner Bros. Pictures, a Warner Bros. Entertainment Company.
