LATV Out Performs MTV & VH1 In LA.
March 19, 2005
LATV has solidified itself as the leading network among bicultural Latinos in Los Angeles, America’s top Hispanic market. According to the Nielsen Hispanic Station Index (NHSI), LATV’s weekly ratings are ahead of MTV, VH1, Mun2, and Fox Sports en Espanol among Hispanic viewers between the age of 18 and 34.
For the week of March 28th, LATV’s Thursday night regional Mexican/urban show “Mex 2 The Max Live” achieved a 1.0 rating (one percent of all Hispanic households), far ahead of MTV (0.4), VH1 (0.4), Fox Sports en Espanol (0.4) and Mun2 (less than 0.1). This figure gives “Mex 2 The Max Live” more than 22,000 Hispanic viewers per week in Los Angeles.
For the week of March 28th, LATV’s TRL-like show LATV Live outperformed MTV, VH1, Fox Sports en Espanol, Mun2 and even Galavision (#1 Spanish Cable Channel) in the 18-34 demographic. The significance of such a strong performance is that LATV has proven more compelling than MTV or VH1 in capturing English-dominant Latino youth, while also grabbing more viewers than Spanish or bilingual networks like Fox Sports en Espanol or Mun2.
“The Best of LATV Live”, a program featuring live performances and videos from the biggest names in Latin rock, hip-hop, and pop (not to mention leading ‘Anglo’ groups and celebrity actors) also posted excellent figures, garnering a rating of 0.4 among Hispanic viewers 18-34 in age, putting it well ahead of MTV, VH1, Mun2, and Fox Sports en Espanol.
LATV has been on the air since 2001. The station’s content is predominantly in English, and it is the most experienced television property in the country targeting bilingual Latino youth. Each week, LATV has a live in-studio audience of 200 persons per week, with more than 15,000 people on the current ticket request waiting list. Presently, LATV is the only network airing on basic cable in Los Angeles that reaches the highly sought-after bicultural demographic.
