Papi, Me, and Cesar Chavez.

Papi, Me, and Cesar Chavez chronicles, from the perspective of a child, the historic march from the fields of Delano to the California state capitol in Sacramento led by United Farm Workers Union Leader, Cesar Chavez.

The play was written and directed by Anthony J. Garcia, Artistic Director and Playwright-in-Residence for Su Teatro in Denver, Colorado, the 3rd oldest Chicano theatre company in the country. Born out of the social activism of the Chicano Movement, Su Teatro has created and produced more original works than any other Chicano theatre company. Mr. Garcia has written and directed more than 20 such plays that have toured both coasts as well as Texas, Colorado and New Mexico. The cast of four will be speaking English, while singing in Spanish.

Papi, Me, and Cesar Chavez will tour Houston area schools, libraries, and community centers from March 31st to May 6th, 2005. If you are interested in booking a performance of Papi, Me, and Cesar Chavez for your school, library or community cultural center, please contact Clarissa L. Valdez at MECA, 713-802-9370 extension 26. Cesar Chavez’s birthday is March 31st and what better way to celebrate than by having MECA perform for your group?
