2005 San Antonio ADDY Awards.

The ADDY Awards are the advertising industry’s largest and most representative competition, recognizing creative excellence and the very best worldwide. The 2005 ADDY Awards for the American Advertising Federation (AAF) San Antonio division will be held Saturday, February 19, at 7pm at the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center, Ballroom B. Over 580 entries for more than 98 categories were received for this year’s competition from agencies, freelance professionals, and students.

“AAF San Antonio is a strong resource for all communications industry professionals – as well as students who are pursuing degrees in these areas. You do not have to be an AAF member or a full-serve advertising agency to participate in the ADDY competition,” says Tim Patrick, President of AAF San Antonio.

Each year, the spirited talent of a generous agency conceptualizes and produces the ADDY® Awards Ceremony. In years past, the themed show has celebrated with circus motifs, ninja moves, and futuristic concepts. But for 2005, the awards event will take on a more nostalgic theme, focusing on the advertising industry’s history and growth in San Antonio.

L. Thomas Nador and crew from Lazlo Rain have concocted a video production that will endear the most accomplished of veterans and captivate the freshest of interns. Titled “A Tribute to the Power of Aspiration, Perspiration, and Inspiration,” the program will provide a snapshot of the last 50 years of advertising, as told by some of the industry’s most picturesque people. For many, this special show will be a stroll down memory lane, for others it will be an engaging retrospective of how the city’s advertising environment was constructed, and for the new kids on the block it will be a fascinating lesson in how the generals earned their stars.

The special video production features excerpts from interviews with over 50 leaders in the market telling their stories about the joy of advertising victory and the agony of defeat. Where else could one get advice about agency building from Lionel Sosa, account management from Jim Anderson, business strategy from Ernest Bromley, radio remote rules from duo John Lisle and Steve Hahn, and a photo shoot checklist from Bill Hayes? Most important, the vignettes humanize a very competitive business that often leaves the faint of heart on the sidelines.

The American Advertising Federation (AAF) San Antonio was established in 1920 as the San Antonio Advertising Federation. The mission of the AAF San Antonio is to enhance the advertising industry in San Antonio by providing quality support to the diverse community of individuals dedicated to their advertising craft and by communicating the advertising quality in San Antonio to local, regional and national audiences.
