La Agencia de Orci & Kinky Rock the Vote
October 8, 2004
La Agencia de Orci & Asociados collaborated with Rock the Vote, on a voter turnout public service announcement for the 2004 election featuring the band Kinky. This is the first time Rock the Vote has utilized the resources of a Hispanic agency to
reach Latino Voters. The PSA has aired on several major Spanish-language television networks. The La Agencia de Orci team includes SVP, Executive Creative Director Juan Jose Quintana, Sr. Copywriter Claudio Martinez-Valle and Account Executive Alonso Velasco.
The Kinky PSA has aired on a number of local Telemundo affiliates, SiTV and local Univision affiliates and will continue up to Election Day. The spot was featured during Rock the Vote’s numerous stops on the 2004 Election bus tour, where events attracted between 3000-11000 attendees and is on the Rock the Vote website at http://www.rockthevote.com/gallery.
“La Agencia de Orci enthusiastically jumped at the opportunity to work on getting the Rock the Vote message out to our Latino youth for the up-coming presidential election,” says Quintana. “Opportunities like this project allow us at La Agencia de Orci, to deliver on our commitment to the upcoming younger generations of Latinos”
In the Spanish language spot the members of the Mexico based band, Kinky, call on young people to recognize a vote as a powerful choice, rather than an obligation or duty. Kinky points out how kids in America have the power to control their own lives and make decisions like the clothes they wear or the music they listen to and to have their own beliefs. If they don’t want to give that power to someone else they need to vote this November.
According to Rock the Vote, working with La Agencia de Orci took the group’s efforts a step beyond the previous organizational collaborations. Kinky has also been an important partner to Rock the Vote. The band’s enormous popularity within the Hispanic community made them a natural choice for an artist PSA.
Comprised of five band members — vocalist/guitarist Gilberto Cerezo, guitarist Carlos Chairez, keyboardist/programmer Ulises Lozano, bassist Cesar Pliego, and drummer Omar Gongora — Kinky combines the stylishness of discerning American and European dance grooves and straight-ahead rock ‘n’ roll, with traditional rhythms from throughout South America.
