Denny’s Launches Five Star Champions Scholarship Program.

Denny’s, in partnership with the Hispanic College Fund (HCF), announces the launch of the Five Star Champions Scholarship Program for college students enrolled in restaurant-related fields. Denny’s will award one culinary student and one hospitality student a $5,000 scholarship each, to be applied to their current semester at a U.S. college or university. Denny’s will also guarantee a job interview or internship within the organization. The two winning students will receive a collection of 25 books on the culinary arts and hospitality management written by Latino authors.

“Education is an important stepping stone to achieving a career in the fast-paced and rewarding restaurant and hospitality industry,” said Margaret L. Jenkins, Senior Vice President of Marketing and Product Development of Denny’s. “Our association with the Hispanic College Fund allows us to encourage young people planning careers in our industry and to support HCF’s efforts to develop tomorrow’s business leaders.”

Denny’s partnership with HCF has helped nearly 200 Hispanic students realize their educational goals by providing $250,000 in scholarships over a three-year period. This year, from October 15 through December 3, current college students in the culinary or hospitality fields with a GPA of 3.0 or above can apply for the scholarships by submitting an essay entitled “How Do You Envision Your Career in Hospitality or the Culinary Arts Enriching the Latino Community?” Ten finalists will then be selected by HCF and asked to bring their essays to life. The hospitality finalists will be asked to create a breakfast entrée appropriate for Denny’s family-style restaurants. The hospitality finalist will be asked to create a guest service program with specific guidelines provided by Denny’s. A $5,000 scholarship will be awarded to each student for their respective curriculums. The scholarship program will be open to all Culinary and Hospitality Latino students nationwide.

Additionally, the two winning students will receive an all expense paid trip to Los Angeles, where they will showcase their talents at a local Denny’s restaurant. Denny’s will also award the college or university home to both recipients a collection of 25 books by Latino authors covering relevant subjects such as the culinary arts, hospitality and business management as well as diversity affairs.
