El Nuevo Día Orlando To Poll Central Florida Hispanics Voters.
September 11, 2004
As the November Presidential election draws closer, Democrats and Republicans are increasingly focusing their efforts on the region of Central Florida known as the I-4 Corridor. The residents of this area, named for the Interstate connecting Daytona Beach on the Atlantic with Tampa Bay and the Gulf of Mexico, are expected to play a major role in deciding who takes The Whitehouse on November 2nd. Of particular importance to this election is the vote of the Hispanic community.
El Nuevo Día Orlando is endeavoring to take the pulse of the local Hispanic community to find out where they stand on issues such as health care, education, housing and immigration and most importantly, who they think should lead our country during the next four years. The polling is being conducted by New York based Kaagan Research Associates (KRA). KRA’s principal, Larry Kaagan has extensive experience polling Hispanics in the U.S. and Puerto Rico. Since 1983 he has directed political polling at El Nuevo Día in Puerto Rico and has accurately predicted the outcome of the elections. The results of the poll will be published for three consecutive days beginning on the 18th of October.
Linda Hernandez, Editor of El Nuevo Día Orlando said “ We are committed to bring the best coverage possible of this election to the Hispanic community of Central Florida. Hispanics will play a crucial role in this election, and by conducting this poll we hope to encourage discussion and awareness of important issues, and a high participation in the November elections” The results, will be published on the
Unlike Hispanic communities elsewhere in the country, Central Florida has a large percentage of independent voters unbound by party affiliation. The majority of Hispanic voters in the region vote for individual candidates, not straight party tickets, making the area vitally important to both Presidential candidates hoping to capture enough swing votes to win the election.
For President Bush and Senator Kerry, the I-4 Corridor has essentially become a battleground region in a battleground state. The candidates are expected to focus much of their efforts throughout Central Florida and El Nuevo Día Orlando will be there as a voice for the Hispanic Community.
