NY Daily News Launches Hora Hispana Newspaper.
August 15, 2004
The New York Daily News will launch a new, weekly Spanish-language newspaper that will be distributed free to 200,000 Hispanic households in Manhattan, the Bronx, Brooklyn and Queens. Hora Hispana will be delivered door-to-door each Thursday and Friday and will feature news and information directed specifically to New York City’s Latino communities.
Rodolfo Queebleen has been named editor of Hora Hispana. The editorial staff will focus most specifically on practical, how-to information and resources that will be of use to new arrivals to the United States and to first-and second-generation Spanish speakers.
Along with news, Hora Hispana will include feature coverage on movies, music, books, food, theater and TV and radio. Alan Wernick and Albor Ruiz, columnists for The News, will provide columns on immigration and developing issues in each of the Latino communities.
Les Goodstein, president and chief operating officer of The News, said, “The News currently reaches more Hispanics than any other newspaper in New York. By launching Hora Hispana, we are extending our reach beyond our current reader to one who has been eagerly looking for a serious Spanish language newspaper. For our advertisers, Hora Hispana will give them their first opportunity to reach a critical mass of this important Spanish-speaking market. No other New York newspaper provides these advertisers with such a significant opportunity to reach such a large number of potential customers.”
Hora Hispana will have a targeted distribution of 200,000 in Brooklyn, Queens, Manhattan and the Bronx.
