August 7, 2004
Latinobaseball.com will celebrate Hispanic Heritage month in Yankee Stadium (9/3), Angels Stadium (9/20) and Wrigley Field (9/29) by honoring the “Latino player of the year” on each of the home teams during a pre-game presentation.
The awards will be presented to Alex Rodriguez of the New York Yankees, Aramis Ramirez of the Chicago Cubs and Vladimir Guerrero of the Anaheim Angels for their on-field contributions to their playoff bound teams.
Mario Soto, former Cincinnati Reds pitcher stand out and current President of the Dominican Player Union Association will present the awards at each location.
“These players deserve this award and for it to occur during Hispanic Heritage month elevates the excitement of our communities during such a meaningful time”, explained Ralph Paniagua, publisher of Latinobaseball.com.
The Hispanic Heritage Day at the Ballparks has been implemented by R. Paniagua Inc. for more than 10 years at most of the stadiums located in key Latino markets.
“Now with the launch of latinobaseball.com, fans have a great place to learn of the history and legacy of Latinos in baseball. And this legacy continues in the young stars of today” said Mario Soto.
The event is sponsored by New York Life and Johnnie Walker Black. They will host suites at each Stadium for local business leaders. A Black and White photo exhibit of “100 years of Caribbean Baseball” will also be presented.
“With the latinobaseball site, fans can also see the photo gallery, the list of every Latino who has played in baseball since 1900 and the stats of their favorite players of today” stated Beto Villa, Statistical Editor for the site.
