Copa Tecate Finals In San Jose.

Copa Tecate will mark its fourth year this coming weekend August 14-15 in San Jose, California with an all-Mexican Celebrity Soccer match, a closing concert and a huge signed Copa Tecate jersey 15 ft. high and 22 ft. wide in support of the Mexican Soccer Team participating in the summer games in Athens.

In 2004, Copa Tecate attracted more than 3,500 teams and over 65,000 players from leagues all across the U.S., competing in a series of playoff games that began in February with local qualifying matches. The semi finals and final game will take place at Buck Shaw Stadium at Santa Clara University on August 14-15.

The Final Four

Teams advancing to the semi finals include Aguaje (San Francisco), Real Jacala Hidalgo (Houston), Altavista (El Paso), and Paraguay Giant (New York). To date, each team has played aggressively and head into the semi finals with noteworthy backgrounds:

–Club Deportivo Aguaje (San Francisco) from the Mid Peninsula Soccer League, advanced to the semi finals in their first-ever Copa Tecate appearance

–Real Jacala Hidalgo (Houston) makes its first trip to the national finals after four tournament appearances

–El Paso will attempt to become the first market to boast a two-time Copa Tecate win — (2002 winner Atletico Español)

–Paraguay Giant (New York) enters the semi finals after defeating Toros (Dallas) in a penalty kick shootout of 5-4

Celebrities, Music Concert and More

This year’s national final will offer the best in amateur grassroots soccer competition, plus a variety of soccer-themed consumer promotions. The ‘World’s Largest Copa Tecate Jersey’ measuring 15 ft. high and 22 ft. wide, will be on display throughout the weekend festivities and at a special Mexico Olympic viewing party where soccer fans, celebrity players and attending families can sign the jersey in a symbolic gesture to wish the Mexican team good luck in Athens.

The Mexican celebrity soccer players including: Manolo Negrete, Marcelino Bernal, Miguel España and Luis Roberto Alves “Zague” will be making their third appearance at Copa Tecate in a celebrity soccer match as well as participating in Copa Tecate related promotions in restaurants and supermarkets in the San Jose area as part of the Copa Tecate festivities.

Following the final round, Tecate will host a free concert sponsored by KSOL-FM Estereo Sol 98.9 FM featuring Los Horoscopos de Durango, Patrulla 81, and Banda Coralillo.
