Ethnic Media Growth in California’s Interior Valleys.

NCM (New California Media) is hosting its annual ethnic media EXPO in California’s Central Valley for the first time in its five-year history. The NCM EXPO will showcase the news organizations that serve immigrant and minority populations spanning the Imperial, Central and Northern Valleys of California.

Co-hosted by The Fresno Bee/Vida en el Valle, Univision and The Great Valley Center, this year’s EXPO draws attention to a region often overshadowed by the state’s high-profile coastline but covering one-third of California.

Representing nearly half of the state’s population, 36 percent of Valley California’s residents speak a language other than English, making ethnic media a key source of information in the area.

“Valley California is growing twice as fast as the rest of the state, and most of this growth is concentrated in minority and newcomer communities,” says NCM executive director Sandy Close. “The NCM EXPO is the best opportunity for social marketers, elected officials, advertisers, mainstream media and the general public to get to know the media representing these growth regions and get a better feel for their reach and impact.”
