Univision Radio In Miami Dedicate Celis Cruz Broadcast Studio.

Univision Radio’s Miami station WRTO Salsa 98.3 dedicated a broadcast studio in honor of the Queen of Salsa, the late Celia Cruz. An 18 by 24 inch bronze plaque bearing Celia’s bas-relief portrait, a Cuban flag and the inscription in Spanish: “Celia Cruz Studio, ‘The World’s Guarachera’, for spreading Latin music throughout the world and for being our Queen of Salsa”, will be unveiled at a special presentation on Thursday, July 22, 2004 at 11:00AM. The event will take place in the Historic Ballroom at the Douglas Entrance located adjacent to the Univision Radio studios at 800 Douglas Road in Coral Gables, Florida.

Pedro Knight, Cruz’s widow and Omer Pardillo, president and co-founder of the Celia Cruz Foundation will join Claudia Puig, Senior Vice President and Southeastern Regional Manager of Univision Radio.

“It is a great honor for us to dedicate the Salsa 98.3 studio to our beloved Celia Cruz. With this, we wish to honor her memory and pay tribute to her contributions to music and humanity”, said Ms. Puig.

As part of this posthumous tribute to Celia Cruz, next year, Salsa 98.3 will donate a portion of the proceeds of the stations signature concert “Dia de la Salsa” to the Celia Cruz Foundation. Founded by Celia Cruz, the Celia Cruz Foundation is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to raising funds for under-privileged students wishing to study music. It also contributes to cancer research and organizations that provide assistance to cancer patients.

“We are filled with joy and pride that Univision Radio is honoring Celia Cruz with such a beautiful and well-deserved tribute. Radio has always been a key element to help her musical legacy reach great heights by reaching listeners who always celebrated her music. It is with great pleasure that Pedro Knight and I accept this recognition,” stated Omer Pardillo. “On behalf of the Celia Cruz Foundation, we want to thank Univision Radio and Salsa 98.3 for their continued support of this organization,” added Pardillo.
