Telemundo’s Jorge Hidalgo – Sports Illustrated ‘101 Most Important Minorities in Sports’.

Telemundo announced that Jorge Hidalgo, Executive Vice President of Sports, has once again been named on this year’s Sports Illustrated “101 Most Important Minorities in Sports in the U.S.”

Hidalgo, who was also recognized as one of the most influential executives in sports in the U.S. in last year’s issues of Sports Illustrated, Hispanic Business and Poder magazines, has brought a variety of sporting events and growth to Deportes Telemundo. He currently spearheads Telemundo’s efforts for the pioneering broadcast of Athens 2004 Olympic Games in U.S. Spanish-language television.

“I am extremely proud of Jorge’s contributions to our network. His work has helped position us as the leader in providing a wide range of sports events to our audience,” said Jim McNamara, President and CEO, Telemundo.

Among his most recent accomplishment is the re-signing of the multi-year contract with Mexico’s and United States’ national teams for the broadcast of all World Cup qualifier matches as well as preparation games on Telemundo. He also established the first crossover broadcast for NBC Sports, in which the Telemundo production team, as well as Sports Commentator Jessi Losada, broadcast the newly created NBC Boxing series in two languages for both networks.

Hidalgo joined Telemundo in February 1999 as VP of Sports. A year later, he rose to the rank of Senior VP of Sports. In 2003, he was promoted to Executive VP of Sports, where he is responsible of supervising all sports programming development, and all sports programs and events.

“I’m thrilled to be part of this important issue again but, most importantly, I’m proud of being part of the Telemundo family and my excellent sports team, which is deeply committed to bring viewers the best sports coverage in Spanish,” said Hidalgo.
