Getting In Shape @ Telemundo’s ‘De Mananita’.

Telemundo’s morning show “De Mananita” (9am ET/PT; 8am CT) is creating awareness about the dangers of childhood inactivity with a 12-segment series entitled “Niños Activos, Familias Sanas,” which promotes physical activity for children and families. The segments will run every other Monday through November 8th.

Since Hispanic children are at a greater risk of developing obesity, type 2 diabetes, and heart disease than Caucasian children, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has created this campaign to encourage Hispanic parents to get their kids (age 9 – 13) involved in physical activity for at least 60 minutes every day.

The sponsors of the series are the CDC’s new “Niños Activos, Familias Sanas” brand (targeting parents), along with Bally’s Total Fitness, Vista magazine and Telemundo. The series will follow the progress of two families (the Manzanos and the Espositos) as they work with different experts to increase their physical activity and develop a healthier lifestyle. One of the experts will be Bally’s Total Fitness national health and fitness expert Seven Boggs, who will offer personal training advice on getting fit anywhere, anytime. Bally’s Total Fitness is also providing the families with access to Bally health club facilities and home fitness packages for additional training support. Vista magazine is following the families’ progress in monthly articles — the first month’s installment appeared in the issue released last weekend.
