Arizona’s KTVW-TV Univision 33 News Team Earns Top Honors From Associated Press.

The news team from “Noticias Univision 33” (“Univision 33 News”) received top honors from the Arizona Associated Press Broadcasters Association for excellence in Enterprise News, News Writing, and Light Feature. These awards were presented to Senior Reporter Julio Cesar Ortiz and Chief Photographer José Luis Palomino during the Arizona Associated Press Broadcasters Association Awards Banquet that was held Saturday, June 5, 2004, in Tucson, AZ.

Ortiz was recognized for his incessant coverage of immigration issues surrounding the Hispanic community. His reports have been an essential part of “Noticias Univision 33” news coverage, comprising every angle of the issue, from the human side to the legal side and beyond. Ortiz’ stories have taken him from Phoenix, Arizona, to the cities on both sides of the U.S. – Mexico border, and to the small towns in the heart of Mexico, where immigration to the United States has taken its toll on the community.

Palomino, with extensive experience as a photographer, has been able to convey all the emotions of this complex issue through the camera lens, capturing moments that bring to life the stories written by Ortiz.

“Noticias Univision 33” was presented with these awards for the first time. The Arizona Associated Press Broadcasters Association Awards are awarded to the best in broadcast journalism during 2003 in the state of Arizona, regardless of language. They are open to any broadcast station that receives the AP newswire.
