Michel Camilo Wins JazzWeek ‘Artist of the Year’.

Latin jazz pianist and composer Michel Camilo was named “Artist of the Year” at the annual JazzWeek Awards held Saturday, June 5 in Rochester, N.Y.

JazzWeek is a national radio airplay chart-a weekly report of the top fifty Jazz and Smooth Jazz recordings played on radio stations across the United States and Canada. At this year’s second annual JazzWeek Summit, more than 400 jazz radio programmers from throughout North America voted on nominees in thirteen categories.

“I am so thrilled to receive this award,” said Camilo. “To be recognized by such a knowledgeable and passionate group of people is a tremendous honor. I am thankful for the support I get from the jazz radio community, and look forward to seeing them on the road.”
