ESPN Deportes will offer exclusive national coverage of more than 70 regular season Major League Baseball games, starting with the 2004 season opener of Beisbol Dominical de ESPN Deportes (Sunday Night Baseball) featuring Pedro Martinez and the Boston Red Sox visiting Miguel Tejada and his new team, the Baltimore Orioles on April 4 at 8 p.m. ET.

ESPN Deportes will continue to televise opening day action on Monday, April 5 with three additional games including the Chicago Cubs vs. the Cincinnati Reds at 2 p.m. ET., the San Francisco Giants vs. the Houston Astros at 7 p.m. ET, and the Texas Rangers vs. the Oakland Athletics at 10:30 p.m. ET.

ESPN Deportes Major League Baseball telecasts will include Sunday Night Baseball games, as well as Wednesday night doubleheaders, a number of holiday games, the Home Run Derby, the Futures Game and Triple-A All Star Game.

ESPN Deportes, which had been available as block of Sunday night programming between 2001 and 2003, was expanded to a 24-hour service in January of this year.

Veteran ESPN Deportes commentator Ernesto Jerez (play by play) and former Major League Baseball player Candy Maldonado (analyst) will return of a fourth consecutive season of Major League Baseball on ESPN Deportes. Additional ESPN Deportes commentators Luis Alfredo Alvarez, Guillermo Celis, and Fernando Alvarez will compose a second telecast team to handle the increased schedule of games.

Throughout its coverage of Major League Baseball, ESPN Deportes will showcase some of the best Latino players in the game, including the reigning American League Most Valuable Player Alex Rodriguez (New York Yankees), slugger Sammy Sosa (Chicago Cubs), RBI machine Carlos Delgado (Toronto Blue Jays), hitting sensation Albert Puljos (St. Louis Cardinals), and rising superstar Miguel Cabrera (Florida Marlins), who rose to prominence during last year’s playoffs.

In addition, ESPNdeportes.com will offer comprehensive Major League Baseball news and information throughout the season. Highlights will include real-time scores and statistics, game re-caps and box scores, pre-game and post-game analysis of ESPN Deportes telecasts, and interactive chat sessions hosted by ESPN Deportes commentators.

Since launching earlier this year, ESPN Deportes has secured distribution on a variety of cable systems including Charter, Cox, and Insight, and with the National Cable Television Cooperative (NCTC). ESPN Deportes is expected to be rolled-out in key Hispanic markets including Los Angeles, Houston, Dallas, Phoenix, San Diego, and Austin, among others.
