WCBS News Radio 880 Makes Moves To Reach The NY Hispanic Market.

While all Yankee fans are still beaming over the acquisition of baseball’s best all around player, Alex Rodriguez, WCBS News Radio is beaming over two tremendous acquisitions of their own. On February 1, WCBS General Manager, Steve Swenson, reached an agreement with WADO to carry 100 Yankees games on that station. Swenson says, “This is WCBS’ third year as the flagship station of Yankee baseball and we are pleased to be working with WADO for our third year as well. WADO is a leader in the Hispanic Radio market and have become the home for Yankee baseball in Spanish.”

WCBS also announced the hiring of Spanish Radio veteran, Ernie Stair, as the Director of Sales for the Spanish Broadcast of Yankee Baseball on WADO. Noel Wax, Director of Sports Sales for Infinity Radio in New York said, “Hiring Ernie Stair as our Spanish Sports Sales Director is as big to us as the Yankees signing Alex Rodriguez. We have a very powerful tool for reaching the Hispanic market in the Tri State area, and Ernie is the right person to help our advertisers reach this market. With the signing of Alex Rodriguez, a New York native, we have just heightened the appeal of Yankee baseball while generating great excitement within the Hispanic Community.”

Mr. Stair says, “I have the utmost respect for CBS, not only for offering the Hispanic market such a service, but for also having the courage, honesty and sincerity to venture into the ranks of the Hispanic Community for someone to spearhead this effort. On both these counts, the Hispanic market is indebted to CBS.”
