Workshop Prepares Hispanic Students For College Entrance.

In the past ten years, the Hispanic population increased by at least 58 percent, but only 11 percent of them graduated from college, compared to 29 percent of non-Hispanics. Addressing this issue, the National Association of Hispanic Publications Inc. Annual Convention will host a workshop on college entrance preparation on Saturday, March 20 from 2:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.

The NAHP Foundation together with the United States Army, a long supporter of the Foundation educational programs and the White House Initiative for Education Excellence for Hispanics united forces to change these alarming numbers. They will sponsor the workshop focused on informing and preparing Hispanic students to reach their college dream.

The US Army will provide a free online course in math, English and test-taking skills called March2Succes, a program developed by The Princeton Review. In addition, students will have the opportunity to figure out their communications styles with the flash cards system Winning Colors.

A major supporter of college education for the Hispanic community, the US Army has also developed a free educational toolkit called “Planning For Life” that will help students, parents and educators to better prepare America’s youths to attend college.
