January 23, 2004
VOY announced the launch date of its cable television platform, VOY Network, LLC. Led by Andrew Thau, President and CEO, VOY Network will launch July 19, 2004. VOY targets Adults 18-49 in the rapidly growing English-speaking and acculturated U.S. Hispanic marketplace, the fastest growing demographic and population segment in the U.S.
“The New Generation Latino is America’s most under represented television viewer. Our dreams and aspirations are largely missing from the television landscape. With VOY Network we will connect the millions of Latinos in this country who are seeking culturally relevant television that is entertaining, inspiring and energizing,” said Fernando Espuelas, Chairman of VOY Network. “Andrew’s long history of success in launching and growing cable networks provides VOY a significant competitive advantage and momentum. His experience in running Latin-themed networks puts him in a unique position to understand what the viewer, advertiser and cable operator want and how to deliver it,” Espuelas continued.
“VOY Network is poised to capitalize on the incredible growth of the English-speaking and acculturated U.S. Hispanic audience, which is highly sophisticated in terms of the entertainment it desires. This market has been drastically underserved by both Spanish-language and mainstream television; it is our intention to create a one-of-a-kind network that can build a community for Latinos and the advertisers who seek to reach them. VOY Network will be successful by developing programming that is unique, credible and authentic to this viewer, as well as becoming a valuable brand for operators and
advertisers,” Thau said.
VOY Network targets Adults 18-49 in the rapidly growing English-speaking and acculturated U.S. Hispanic marketplace, the fastest growing demographic and population segment in the U.S. VOY’s programming also serves the increasing appetite for Latin culture among mainstream consumers. With a majority of its schedule composed of original programming, the network will serve as television’s “home” for the dynamic and underserved Latin marketplace. VOY’s programming features leading Latino talent and viewpoints that uniquely celebrate the U.S. Hispanic experience and the American way of life. VOY’s lifestyle entertainment and community programming includes genres such as talk shows, reality, travel, culinary, pop culture and celebrity, history, documentaries and politics that entertain, energize and inspire both Latino and mainstream audiences.
The Company also announced that the Los Angeles-based network’s senior management team will include Lucia Ballas-Traynor, Head of Programming, and Jon Dubin, Head of Advertising Sales. Further, veteran cable executive Cathy Rasenberger will oversee VOY Network’s distribution within the cable and satellite community.
Emilio Diez Barroso, President of VOY, LLC, and member of the family who created Televisa and Univision, added, “The U.S. Hispanic market is a growing force both economically and culturally, but the landscape of the demographic has evolved. Dominated by Spanish-speaking consumers in the past, the U.S. Hispanic population has been developing and establishing its own hybrid identity, one that consumes English language media but retains great affinity for its culture. VOY Network satisfies the demand for English-language programming that embraces the diversity and richness of Latin heritage.” Thau added, “To capture and retain the leading position in this arena, we are assembling a management team of depth, experience and diversity in the cable and Hispanic marketplace. Cathy, Lucia and Jon will accelerate our ability to gain distribution, attract advertisers and create programming that generates excitement and enthusiasm.”
