story of four survivors of the deadliest tragedy in recent immigrant history. Jorge Ramos brings viewers the appalling details regarding the May 14, 2003, Victoria, Texas immigrant tractor-trailer deaths where along with 54 survivors, authorities found 19 deceased illegal immigrants, among them a 5-year old boy. This one-hour special can be seen only on Univision Network Thursday, November 20 at 10 p.m. ET/PT(9 p.m. Central/Mountain).
Jorge Ramos and four survivors travel to Victoria to relive the hours of inhumane conditions they suffered earlier this year. TV viewers will experience first hand the reality behind the human trafficking of immigrants as the day’s events are retold. After paying roughly $2,000 apiece, as many as 73 immigrants climbed into an airtight tractor-trailer in Southern Texas in search of the “American Dream.” Amidst complete darkness and uncontrollable chaos, they struggled to survive; but broken taillights did not supply enough ventilation.
With 14 individuals in the U.S. connected to the smuggling ring, Jorge Ramos explores the world of human trafficking. As the accused face a potential death sentence, Ramos also examines the impact of the Victoria, Texas tragedy on immigration laws.
