St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, one of the world’s premier centers for the research and treatment of pediatric cancers and other catastrophic childhood diseases, will celebrate its second annual FedEx/St. Jude Angels & Stars Gala on Friday, October 24 at the JW Marriott Hotel in Miami, Florida. Cuban-born actress and model Daisy Fuentes will serve as celebrity chairman for the gala for the second consecutive year. The ceremony will feature live performances by Sony Latin pianist Francisco Paz, Maverick Música recording artist Jorge Moreno and EMI Latino, Colombian-American, singer-songwriter and cancer survivor, Soraya.
FedEx/St. Jude Angels & Stars Gala, sponsored in part by FedEx Express, will bring together members of South Florida’s social, corporate and entertainment communities in an exclusive event to raise funds to support the life-saving mission of St. Jude.
“Working with children to help them succeed is something that resonates with the FedEx family worldwide. We do this with the same passion that we have for on-time delivery, because at FedEx, we approach both our business and the communities we serve with a people-first philosophy.” said Julio Barrionuevo, vice president of finance, FedEx Express Latin America and Caribbean Division.
The evening’s activities will begin at 6:30 p.m. with cocktails, a silent auction featuring original artwork from the famed Brazilian artist Romero Britto, and welcome by emcee Jade Alexander, entertainment reporter at CBS-4 and on-air talent at Salsa 98.3, Univision Radio Miami. The ceremony will include an elegant dinner, followed by live performances by Francisco Paz, Jorge Moreno and Soraya.
“The one message I would like to get across to people is that you don’t have to close your eyes to what these children are facing. As tragic as it is to know that a child is suffering from a catastrophic disease, it’s very important to know about the research developed at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital,” said Daisy Fuentes. “Once you see it, you realize that there is hope and that we need to do what we can to feed that hope. It’s just amazing to witness the mission of the hospital and to see the number of kids being saved from such devastating diseases.”
Since her first visit to the hospital in 1998, Daisy has actively worked with St. Jude to educate the Hispanic community about its mission. Daisy has enjoyed a prosperous modeling and television career, but says nothing has meant more to her than her involvement with the children at St. Jude. She has participated in many national promotional and fund-raising campaigns for the world-renowned pediatric cancer research center.
