Andres Cantor Honored For Making A Difference In The Community.

Telemundo’s Andres Cantor was the recipient of this year’s “Striving for Excellence Award” in the Visionary category. The award was presented during a benefit dinner last Friday, September 26 at the Regent Beverly Wilshire Hotel in Beverly Hills, California.

“I’m thrilled about this recognition but, most importantly, I’m pleased to help encourage talented minority college students to obtain the necessary skills to get ahead in their careers,” said Cantor.

The Emmy award winner sportscaster has been named the most influential person in soccer by “Soccer America” magazine and has also received international recognitions for his work. In 1994, Cantor was named Sport Personality of the Year by the American Sportscaster Association, an honor previously given to John Madden and Dick Vitale.

“We are very proud of Andrés not only for his professionalism but also because he has been actively involved in our community and has become a role model to our younger generations,” said Jorge Hidalgo, Executive Vice President of Sports for the Network.

Currently, Cantor can be seen as co-host of Telemundo’s sports programs Fútbol Telemundo, Sábado de Fútbol, Rumbo al Mundial, and Junto al Tri, as well as other major sports events, including next year’s Olympics in Athens, Greece.

The “Striving for Excellence Awards and Benefit Dinner” recognize corporate, broadcast and entertaining professionals who promote diversity and strive to make a difference in their communities. The Minorities in Broadcasting Training Program is a non-profit organization formed to provide training to outstanding college graduates in radio and television news reporting and news management.
