Telemundo’s Sandoval – Honored With NAHJ Journalism Award.
May 4, 2003
Telemundo veteran news correspondent Angie Sandoval is the winner of a 2003 National Association of Hispanic Journalist (NAHJ) Journalism Award in the Television Investigative Reporting category, announced Telemundo Network. The award ceremony will take place June 28th, 2003 in New York City during the NAHJ Noche de Triunfos Journalism Awards Gala.
Sandoval’s winning piece — “Niños de Nadie” – is an investigative series which discovered the presence of minors in adult Nicaraguan jails. She traveled to Nicaragua with photographer Simon Elrich and went undercover inside the jails to document the appalling living conditions these children must endure. This Telemundo exclusive investigative story was taken to Nicaragua’s President Enrique Bolaños, who ended up removing these children from the facilities.
Veteran journalist Sandoval has been Noticiero Telemundo’s News Correspondent since 2001 covering national and international news. During the most recent Telemundo’s war coverage “Objetivo Saddam,” Sandoval reported live from the White House. Before joining the network news, she was correspondent for Telemundo’s news magazine program “Ocurrio Así.” She was Senior Reporter for WSCV Telemundo’s Channel 51 in Miami and News Reporter for Channel 23 Univision in that same city.
