Univision Music Group Sets Latin Music Sales Record In The USA.

Univision Music Group set a new and unparalleled record in Latin music history with six of the top ten most sold Latin albums in the U.S. and Puerto Rico according to Nielsen SoundScan’s latest Report.

For the week ending May 18, 2003, international Latin pop star Marco Antonio Solis’ “Tu Amor o Tu Desprecio” snared the #1 position immediately a week after its release followed by his former band’s compilation album “20 Inolvidables” from Los Bukis and Los Temerarios, which had held the #1 position for more than four consecutive weeks. Conjunto Primavera’s “Nuestra Historia” continues holding strong at #4, and Bronco’s greatest hits collection “30 Inolvidables” remained at #5.

“Y Tenerte Otra Vez” (“And To Have You Again”), Pepe Aguilar’s debut album under Univision Records, which also entered Billboard’s Top 200 chart upon release, is in the #8 position, followed by Grupo Mojado’s compilation album “30 Inolvidables” at #9.

According to SoundScan, Univision Records had 11 albums, Fonovisa Records continued to dominate the charts with 19 and Disa Records held a strong 11 albums total, bringing the company’s sum to 41 albums on the top 100 selling Latin albums chart.

This unrivalled feat has established Univision Music Group as the indisputable leader in the Latin music industry, and according to Jose Behar, President & CEO, Univision Music Group, it is a testament to the extraordinary arduous work and ongoing commitment of its artists, staff and Universal Music Video & Distribution (UMVD) sales team.

“While we are honored to be in this coveted position, we are humbled by and grateful to the hard work, selfless sacrifice and tireless dedication everyone at Univision Music Group and UMVD has set forth to reach this exceptional accomplishment,” stated Behar.

Behar further added that these results reflect the continued utilization of the synergies that exist between its record labels and the broader Univision Communications’ affiliates, namely Univision Television Group, Univision.com, Galavision and Telefutura.

Univision Music Group has established itself as one of the most important Latin music companies in the country, keeping a steady presence on the Nielsen SoundScan charts with a strong hold of 41 albums in the top 100, reflecting 50% of all Latin albums sold in the U.S. and Puerto Rico for the week ending May 18, 2003.
