Sierra – VP Programming & Production @ Discovery Networks Latin America/Iberia.

Discovery Networks Latin America/Iberia (DNLA/I) announced the appointment of Guillermo Sierra to the post of Vice President, Programming and Production. Sierra will have oversight for all programming, production and development for Discovery’s six networks based out of the Latin American headquarters in Miami, Florida. Enrique R. Martinez, Managing Director and Executive Vice President of Discovery Networks, Latin America/Iberia, to whom Sierra will report, made the announcement.
“Guillermo’s regional expertise and understanding of the cable industry makes him the ideal candidate to lead the evolution and development of Discovery Networks Latin America/ Iberia’s programming and growing body of high-quality original productions,” said Martinez. “Guillermo is a highly respected and creative force within our industry and we are very pleased to welcome him to the Discovery family.”
Sierra will oversee all aspects related to programming strategy, including in-market program development, program acquisitions and scheduling for the six networks within Discovery’s portfolio of brands in the region: Discovery Channel, Discovery Kids, Discovery Health, Discovery Travel & Adventure, People+Arts and Animal Planet, the latter two a joint venture with BBC Worldwide Ltd. He will also work closely with the sales, marketing and communications divisions as part of an integrated approach to enhancing and strengthening the value and uniqueness of Discovery’s six network brands in the region.
Prior to joining Discovery, Sierra worked for LAPTV, a joint venture from several movie studios, (Fox, MGM, Universal, Paramount) that provides premium and basic movie services to Spanish speaking Latin America, where he mostly recently held the position of vice-president of the networks, overseeing programming, acquisitions and on air promotion for the three LAPTV brands. He played an important role in LAPTV’s growth and development including having had operational and programming responsibility for the launch of CineCanal 2 and Movie City in 1996 and 1997. Prior to his tenure with LAPTV, Sierra held marketing and programming positions with Grupo Televisa, Cablevision.
