Yahoo! en Español announced an integrated marketing and content agreement with Major League Soccer (MLS). Through the agreement, Yahoo! en Español will be the official online sponsor of MLS and will provide comprehensive, Spanish-language online coverage of all MLS matches and marquee events.

Throughout the 2003 MLS season, Yahoo! en Español will have field board displays at all regular season, playoff, international exhibition, All-Star and MLS Cup games. Additionally, U.S. Men’s National Team superstar Landon Donovan and the rest of the San Jose Earthquakes will prominently display the Yahoo! en Español logo on their jerseys and warm-ups.

Yahoo! Deportes, the all-inclusive sports section of Yahoo! en Español, will feature a special area dedicated to MLS coverage, complete with photos, news, league statistics and special coverage from the Pepsi MLS All-Star Game and MLS Cup championship. Daily MLS game results and scores will also be posted on Yahoo! Deportes and the Yahoo! en Español front page will promote upcoming weekend games through the rotating sports’ mantle.

“The combination of the Hispanic community’s love of the game and the unprecedented growth of Spanish-speakers online allows Yahoo! en Español to offer its users the best and most relevant content for their needs,” said Jorge Consuegra, General Manager of Yahoo! en Español. “We learned through our sponsorship of FIFA World Cup 2002 that soccer represents a unique marketing solution for advertisers seeking to reach the U.S. Hispanic market.”

“We are excited to have formed yet another alliance with Yahoo! en Español and we are eager to leverage the power and reach of the Internet and their dominant position in U.S. Hispanic online arena,” Mark Noonan, MLS Executive Vice President. “This partnership will strengthen the popularity of our League, especially among U.S. Hispanics – one of our core constituents,” he added.

As part of the comprehensive agreement, Yahoo! Sports will be a co-sponsor of the league, while Yahoo! Platinum (Yahoo’s new, paid multimedia service) will broadcast select MLS games online.

MLS will be promoted on Yahoo! en Español through a variety of programs, including targeted banner advertisements to raise visibility of the league with Yahoo! en Español’s vast audience of U.S. Hispanic kids, adults and all-around soccer enthusiasts.
