Widely recognized as the premier meteorologist in Spanish language television in the United States, Morales has been a familiar face in the South Florida market for over 10 years. Furthermore, Morales has enjoyed popularity on over 60 radio stations in the U.S., Dominican Republic, Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico.

“John Morales represents unlimited experience and credibility to millions of U.S. Hispanic television viewers, and we are proud that John joins long-time WSCV meteorologist Felipe Ferro in what will be known as the most knowledgeable and dynamic weather team in Spanish language television,” said Rodriguez.

“NBC and Telemundo have provided a unique and marvelous opportunity to maintain my commitment as a meteorologist to the Hispanic audience, while at the same time getting a chance to serve the general audience with severe weather analysis and forecasts through the NBC Network,” said John Morales. “I couldn’t be prouder to be joining Telemundo and NBC, and look forward to many years of professional service to our audience.”

Prior to joining WSCV, Morales served as Chief Meteorologist for the Univision Network and its Miami station, WLTV, from 1991 through 2002. He received an Emmy Award in 1993 for his special titled “48 Hours Before the Storm,” detailing life-saving measures and precautions to take in preparation for a hurricane.

Among his many credentials, Morales is a member of the National Weather Association, the American Meteorological Society, the National Council for Industrial Meteorologists and the International Association of Broadcast Meteorologists. In addition, he is certified as a consultant by the American Meteorological Association and is a member of the Climatological Consulting Corporation. In 1991, Morales founded ClimaData Corporation, providing weather information and forecasts in the U.S. and the Caribbean.

A graduate in Atmospheric Sciences from Cornell University in Ithaca, New York, Morales has worked for the National Meteorological Service in San Juan, Puerto Rico; Lake Charles, Louisiana; and Washington, D.C. During his tenure with the federal government, he reached the position of meteorological supervisor and later became National Weather Center Bureau Chief for South America. Morales also completed some post-graduate work at the University of Miami, specializing in Tropical Meteorology.

Morales is a published author as well. His book “Hurricanes: Know Your Enemy,” initially issued in Puerto Rico in 2000, is intended not only for the weather enthusiast, but also for anyone who is interested in learning about the awesome power of this tropical phenomenon.

“John Morales will make us better prepared to cover severe weather and this is key to Telemundo’s commitment to better serve our community,” said Ibra Morales, President of Telemundo’s Station Group. “As the most prominent meteorologist on Spanish language television, John will be an excellent resource to the Telemundo Network,” added Joe Peyronnin, Telemundo’s Executive Vice President of News and Information Programming.
