Cub Foods Gives Customers A Chance To Star In TV Commercials.

Cub Foods introduced its “I Love My Cub” campaign, providing shoppers in the Minneapolis-St. Paul metropolitan area the chance to appear in a 30-second television commercial for Cub Foods grocery stores, and to win valuable prizes. TV personality Mario Lopez, co-host of television’s “The Other Half” talk show and host of NBC TV’s “America’s Most Talented Kid” reality show, will be on hand to serve as celebrity host and emcee for participants in the contest. Lopez began his television career by appearing in TV commercials.

“We’re encouraging our customers to creatively express their genuine love for our food and our prices in any way they wish. It could be a personal testimonial, short poem or an impromptu monologue about great customer service and why they love Cub Foods,” said Gordy Farrington, president, Cub Foods west region. Farrington said contestants should prepare up to a one-minute performance for the Cub Cam screening test.

Contestants will have the chance to meet with celebrity host and emcee Mario Lopez, and judges will be on hand to conduct screen tests and select the final candidates for filming.

The Cub Cam TV commercial auditions and filming will be held Saturday, April 26, from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Cub Foods store in Brooklyn Park, 7555 West Broadway, and Sunday, April 27, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Cub Foods store in Apple Valley. The first 250 participants at each location will each receive a $5 Cub Foods gift certificate. Up to forty finalists each will receive a $50 Cub Foods gift certificate and be entered into a grand prize drawing to win free groceries for a year (a $5,200 value). Customers may show up for the Cub Cam TV screening without an appointment or may pre-register by calling 952-885-1919.

In his role as celebrity host and emcee, Lopez will help facilitate the screening of contestants and share his own experiences about working in television and appearing in television ads. Using his own on-screen experience as a guide, Lopez will provide contestants with hints on how they might make the best impression on judges, increasing their chances of being included in the final cut of an “I Love My Cub” TV commercial.

Mario Lopez currently hosts NBC TV’s new reality show “America’s Most Talented Kid,” which airs Friday evenings at 7:00 p.m. central on NBC (KARE-TV in Minneapolis-St. Paul). He also appears on the syndicated, daytime talk show “The Other Half,” with co-hosts Dick Clark, Danny Bonaduce and Dorian Gregory. Many television viewers may remember Lopez as the high school jock “Slater” from the NBC comedy series “Saved By The Bell,” a popular, long-running show that ran through the early 1990s.

Lopez will serve as celebrity host and emcee at the Brooklyn Park Cub Foods store only on Saturday, April 26. On Sunday, April 27, local comedian Colleen Kruse will serve as host and emcee at the Apple Valley Cub Foods Store. Kruse is the voice talent for the new Cub Foods radio commercials, debuting next month.
