Daisy Expósito Ulla – Women Who Change The World.

The New York Women in Communications, Inc. (NYWICI) has named Daisy Expósito-Ulla, chairman & CEO of The Bravo Group, one of the “Women Who Change The World,” and will honor her with a Matrix Award, a distinction which recognizes exceptional women who have distinguished themselves in the communications fields of advertising, arts & entertainment, books, broadcasting, magazines, newspapers, and public relations. The 2003 Matrix Awards luncheon, hosted by General Electric and NBC, will be held at the Waldorf Astoria on Monday, April 28.

Expósito-Ulla is being honored in the Advertising category. Other honorees for 2003 include Carolyn K. Reidy, President, Simon & Schuster Adult Publishing Group in the Books category; Sheila Nevins, Executive Vice President, Original Programming, HBO, in the Broadcasting category; Kate White, Editor-in-Chief, Cosmopolitan, in the Magazine category; Gretchen C. Morgenson, Reporter & Columnist, The New York Times, in the Newspapers category; and Maurie Perl, Senior Vice President, Corporate Communications, Condé Nast Publications in the Public Relations category. Also being honored is Christy A. Ferer, Chairman & President, Applevision/Vidicom, Mayor’s Liaison to the Victims’ Families, with this year’s special Outstanding Service Communications to New York award, which recognizes outstanding contributions to New York City citizens.

Among this year’s star-studded presenters are City of New York Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg; Author Toni Morrison; Actress Mary Tyler Moore; Playwright Wendy J. Wasserstein; president of CBS News, Andrew Heyward; president of Rohatyn Associates, Felix Rohatyn; and editor of The New Yorker, David Remnick. Cristina Saralegui, CEO of Cristina Saralegui Enterprises, Inc., will present the award to Expósito-Ulla. Described by many as the Latina Oprah Winfrey, Saralegui is a celebrated Hispanic TV and radio personality. A long-time friend of Expósito-Ulla’s, with whom she shares a common background, their professional association has produced campaigns for AT&T aimed to reach nearly 40 million consumers in the U.S. Hispanic market. Both legendary women hail from Cuba and are recognized leaders of the Hispanic community. “I have known Daisy for a long time. There is no other person that deserves the recognition more than Daisy,” said Saralegui. “It gives me immense joy to have been selected to be her presenter.”

Expósito-Ulla has been affiliated with The Bravo Group since 1980 and has been pivotal in leading the agency to become the number one Hispanic marketing and communications company in the nation and growing the agency’s billings from less than $5 million to an estimated 280 million in 2002. She first joined The Bravo Group as Creative Director and quickly moved up the ranks. She was named Senior Vice President and General Manager in 1985 and became President & Chief Creative Director in 1990. In 2001, she was named Chairman & CEO.
