Bilingual Teacher Resources.

Guerra Publishing, a San Antonio, Texas-based publishing company, announced that they have officially launched their new educational endeavor by publishing eighteen Spanish language resource materials geared toward helping bilingual teachers enhance classroom instruction for students.

Established last year by Cynthia Guerra, owner of SchooLocker Teacher Supply and her husband, Fidelio, Guerra Publishing was created as the solution to an immense and evident shortage in the availability of Spanish language materials for educators throughout the country. During the nine years of running her successful teacher supply business, it became apparent to Cynthia and her staff that there were few materials available to customers that helped teach grammar, phonics, and reading concepts in Spanish for use in the bilingual classroom.

Over the years, Cynthia conducted a long and tedious national and international search for publications that could fill her customers’ needs but often came up empty-handed. Her research led her to find publications that did not adequately address the needs of bilingual teachers and students in the United States primarily because they did not cover more complex themes such as word usage and word relationships the way English language materials did.

As a result, Cynthia and her husband have spent the last five years preparing the first products for their newly formed publishing consortium. Their initial publications are a series of booklets and classroom charts that tackle everything from basic grammar and the written accent to rhyming words and reading studies in Hispanic heritage.

The materials, each of which target specific student groups from 1st through 12th graders, were all developed by Fidelio, a thirty-two year veteran of secondary and higher education. Each publication uses age appropriate exercises, illustrations and activities to engage students in understanding key terms and concepts in order to enhance their language skills.

“We believe that our materials will have a tremendous impact on Spanish classroom instruction because they help educators teach skills, demonstrate lessons through activities and measure a student’s comprehension of the Spanish language,” says Cynthia. “The response from teachers has been very positive,” she adds. “In fact, we are already planning and developing more products that will further exemplify our dedication to helping educators have access to comprehensive, reproducible and affordable materials for bilingual instruction.”
