Everything happens in Villa Miraflores, a beautiful country mansion and the sanctuary of Oriana Valtierra (Edith Gonzalez), where wild passions are fulfilled in Univision’s new daytime novela, ‘La Jaula de Oro’ (The Golden Cage), which will debut on the Network on Monday, March 3, 2003, and air Monday-Friday, 2:00 – 3:00 pm ET/PT (1:00 pm – 2:00 pm Central/Mountain).
Produced by Televisa’s renowned Jose Rendon, ‘La Jaula de Oro’ chronicles the sheltered yet uninhibited life of the innocent Oriana, who is accompanied only by her dogs, the servants, and her aunt Ofelia (María Teresa Rivas). She spends her days running through the fields and swimming in the springs of Villa Miraflores.

Orphaned at a young age, Oriana moved to Mexico City to live with her grandfather. When Oriana was barely 10 years old, she was brutally raped by one of her grandfather’s employees. Although she subconsciously buried memories about the incident, Oriana’s personality was gravely affected. Concerned about her welfare, her grandfather and her aunt Ofelia decided to take her to live to Villa Miraflores in order to shelter her from an unpredictable society full of strangers. Oriana adjusted very quickly to her new life and accepted her idle surroundings.

When Oriana’s grandfather suddenly dies, everything changes for her. She unexpectedly inherits his fortune and marries a distinguished lawyer, Flavio (René Casados). Oriana also finds out that her twin sister Carolina (Edith González), who was considered to be dead long ago, lives in Puerto Rico. But soon thereafter, her sister dies under strange circumstances, days after her wedding with Alex (Saúl Lisazo). After enduring many accusations and the incarceration for a murder he did not commit, Alex dedicates himself to find the truth behind what really happened to his wife by going to Miraflores as Franco.

Oriana, not knowing who Franco really is, falls in love with him; and he with her. Despite his newfound love for Oriana, Alex does not give up trying to find out what really happened to his wife, Carolina. He uncovers a crime, in which Flavio, Oriana´s husband, is involved.

Will Oriana be able to outgrow her fears and live a normal happy life? Will Alex find out what happened to his beloved wife? Will Oriana be able to free herself from her marriage with Flavio and find happiness alongside Alex? Will the mysteries of Villa Miraflores come to light?
