January 11, 2003
Almost everyone agrees that the kitchen is the center of the home. And for Hispanic Americans, food plays an especially important role in family life, bringing families together to prepare and share the meal. In a recent poll conducted by Tupperware, a majority of Hispanic families (sixty-four percent) said they eat meals together almost every day, with 83% of those polled sharing meals 2-3 times a week.
An overwhelming majority of Hispanic Americans (eighty-two percent) said that family meals are an important way to spend time together. In addition to providing an opportunity for family bonding, homemade meals also provide a solid connection to the past. Seventy-two percent of those polled report carrying on family traditions through food recipes from previous generations.
After preparing a large meal to accommodate everyone in the family, it’s no wonder that nearly three quarters (74%) of those polled regularly have leftovers, with 41% almost always having leftovers. Fortunately, with great products from Tupperware, it’s easy to keep leftovers fresher longer. And with Tupperware Rock ‘N Serve containers, families can bring leftovers from the table to the freezer to microwave, and back to the table!
Preparing the family meal is a big task and can be time-consuming-seventy-two percent of respondents typically spend more than an hour preparing the meal, with 12% spending more than two hours. Fortunately, preparing the meal is also a family affair-in 57% of the polled households, everyone lends a hand to help!
This Tupperware report presents the findings of a telephone survey conducted among a national probability sample of 400 Hispanic adults comprising 236 women and 164 men, 18 years of age or older, living in private households in the continental United States. National Opinion Research Services of Miami, FL conducted the interviewing during December 2002.
