Telemundo Tribute To Celia Cruz ¡AZÚCAR!
January 11, 2003
Telemundo will produce and air an unprecedented event: the tribute concert “Celia Cruz: ¡Azúcar!” honoring the undisputed queen of salsa, Celia Cruz. Two of the most legendary Latin entertainers of our times, Gloria Estefan and Marc Anthony, will host the special event on Telemundo. The air date will be announced at a later time.
“Celia Cruz: ¡Azúcar!” will feature exciting performances of top stars in the music industry as they come together to pay tribute to the most loved and admired “guarachera” and her longstanding career.
“We are extremely proud and thrilled to be the producers of something so special,” said Manuel Martínez-Llorián, Executive Vice President of Programming and Production for Telemundo. “Celia has always been part of our family and we’ve always had her unconditional support for all of our programs and events. It fills us with joy to be able to humbly show her what she means to Telemundo and to her fans.”
Celia Cruz has recorded more than 70 albums, which have garnered numerous gold and platinum records, plus more than a hundred awards from prestigious institutions worldwide. She has received fifteen Grammy Award nominations, winning it for the first time in 1989. True to her winning tradition, this great interpreter has made Latin Grammy history: since the award was introduced in 2000, Celia has won it three consecutive times.
