December 28, 2002
Entravision Radio, a division of Entravision Communications Corporation EVC, announced the format for KSSC/Santa Monica and KSSD/Newport Beach: “103.1 KDL — The New Party Station.” 103.1 KDL is promoting its launch by playing 10,000 songs in a row, which began on January 17th at 5 pm. Call letter changes are pending FCC approval.
103.1 KDL is a contemporary dance format that targets the diverse Adult 18-34 audience in the Los Angeles marketplace and features artists like Kylie Minogue, Bob Marley, Moby, Dirty Vegas, and Madonna.
Haz Montana , Entravision Radio’s Vice President of Programming commented, “We originally developed this unique format for our KKDL FM in Dallas/Fort Worth (106.7 KDL), which posted strong ratings for its debut and received terrific buzz within the market.” KKDL FM in Dallas/Fort Worth recently debuted in the Top 10 among all general market stations for the Adult 18-34 demographic in its first Arbitron ratings survey. “We also plan to tailor the format to suit the distinctive taste of the Los Angeles market.” Montana added.
Jeffery Liberman, President of Entravision Radio, commented, “103.1 KDL will compliment Entravision’s Super Estrella format, capturing a young, hip audience while enabling us the opportunity to offer advertisers promotional opportunities across all of our stations in the market.”
The stations were formerly part of the KSSE (97.5)/Riverside simulcast of Entravision’s Spanish Top-40 format Super Estrella, which is now simulcasting on KSSE/Riverside with its new acquisition, trimulcast KLYY/KVYY/KSYY Los Angeles (107.1). Audiences are being directed to 107.1 for Super Estrella programming. A new format will debut on 97.5 in the near future.
“Entravision Radio has a strong tradition of delivering the best music on the dial to the Hispanic marketplace in either Spanish or English. We’ll continue this tradition with KDL to serve the Latino community, as well as the diverse L.A. market,” commented Entravision/Los Angeles market GM David Haymore. “With Nestor Rocha as the cluster program director and Tom Bell as the cluster sales manager, Entravision Radio is clearly strengthening its presence in the Los Angeles market.”
