mun2 televisión College Internship Program.

mun2 televisión announced that Spring 2003 enrollment has started for its professional internship program, u>mun2. Since the program was launched in the summer of 2002, it has become very popular among Latino college students because it offers them a unique opportunity to become familiar with the management aspects of a TV network, develop professional
skills and network with executives in the entertainment and communications industries. u>mun2 has been implemented in Los Angeles, New York, Miami, Houston, San Antonio, San Francisco, San Jose and Chicago.

“mun2 is becoming a national network of young Latinos who are interested in pursuing careers in the entertainment industry. They develop new skills and also get acquainted with the executives at Telemundo and NBC. For example, Gina Vallecillo-Phillips participated in mun2 and is now a Marketing Coordinator at NBC Cable,” said Yolanda Foster, mun2 televisión’s vice president of programming. Mark Hotz, NBC Cable’s vice president of marketing, said: “We chose Gina because of her skills and because of the experience and knowledge of the industry she acquired during her u>mun2 internship.”

Bill Adams, associate professor of advertising and public relations at Florida International University (FIU), emphasized the importance of mun2 as a complement to students’ classroom education. “mun2 is a very well designed program because it allows students to get practical experience in the fields of TV marketing, market research, public relations and production. It’s a valuable experience because it allows them to apply the theory they assimilated in class to the work
environment,” he said.

Among mun2’s board members are representatives of the Hispanic Scholarship Fund (HSF), migente.com, Cable and Telecommunications Association of Marketers (CTAM), Galán Entertainment and faculty members from Florida International University (FIU) and the University of Miami (UM).

Tania Robles, who went on to become a young executive at New York-based Edelman Public Relations Worldwide, highlighted how
important it was for her to participate in mun2 during the summer of 2002. “I knew beforehand that working as part of team is fundamental for every communicator. But at mun2, we did it daily and, often, with young people who were doing their internships with mun2 in other states. It was a very beneficial experience and, at the same time, lots of fun because it allowed me to learn about different cultural nuances within our Latin community,” she said.

Students who are admitted to mun2 get college credit after completing the work plan for a semester, during which they must spend between 15 to 25 hours a week.
