Sydney Roslow – Hispanic Research Innovator Passes.

Sydney Roslow, father to Peter Roslow of the Roslow Research Group passes away.

Sydney Roslow was truly one of the pioneers in the research field …particularly in the areas of Hispanic radio and television audience measurement. His company Pulse, Inc. offered a unique methodological approach (personal/in-home interviews) and because they gave respondents the opportunity to be interviewed in Spanish, they were the first major ratings service to show that Hispanic radio stations had substantial numbers of listeners. Those were the days when Arbitron and Nielsen showed zero audiences to Spanish stations; Pulse was considered THE source for ethnic media measurement, accepted and used by virtually every Hispanic broadcaster, advertiser and agency.

By the late 60’s, Pulse was producing Hispanic radio ratings surveys for all the major Spanish radio broadcasters. And in the early 70’s Pulse began producing Spanish TV ratings surveys as well; for SIN, WNJU, and other independents. If I recall correctly, by the mid 70’s Pulse was turning out Spanish radio ratings surveys in at least 15 markets, and Spanish TV surveys in 8 markets.

We will miss one of our pioneers.
