George Lopes 2nd Season @ ABC TV.
October 13, 2002
Starring popular standup comedian George Lopez, the family comedy “George Lopez” has returned to ABC Wednesday night (8:30-9:00 p.m., ET/PT) as the No. 1 program in its time period in total viewers (11.8 million), Adults 18-49 (4.9/14) and Adults 18-34 (4.8/15). The series is from Bruce Helford, Deborah Oppenheimer and Robert Borden – all from ABC’s long-running comedy series “The Drew Carey Show” – and actress/producer Sandra Bullock (“Divine Secrets of the YaYa Sisterhood,” “Speed”). Ms. Bullock will be making her second guest appearance in the “No Free Launch” episode, airing Wednesday, November 6.
Since its second season debut on October 2, “George Lopez” has built on its premiere numbers and is up from its own average – including 2.8 million more viewers – in the same half-hour from last season. The airing of the October 9 episode received the show’s highest mark ever in total viewers, Adults 18-49 and Adults 18-34. More impressively, the series has been able to hold on to a solid 92% of its strong lead-in from the hit “My Wife and Kids” among Adults 18-49 (4.9 vs. 5.3), while retaining a full 100% of its Adults 18-34 lead-in (4.8 vs. 4.8).
Along with Lopez, the comedy also stars Belita Moreno (“Perfect Strangers”) as George’s tough-as-nails mother, Benny; Constance Marie (“American Family,” “Union Square”) as Angie, George’s wife; Masiela Lusha as Carmen, their teenage daughter; Luis Armand Garcia as Max, their nine-year-old son; and Valente Rodriguez (“Erin Brockovich”) as Ernie, George’s best friend and an employee at the factory.
The series is executive-produced by Bruce Helford, Robert Borden, Academy AwardÒ-winner Deborah Oppenheimer and actress/producer Sandra Bullock. “George Lopez” is produced by Mohawk Productions, Inc. and Fortis Films, in association with Warner Bros. Television. Launched on March 27, 2002, as a mid-season debut, “George Lopez” quickly became ABC’s No. 1 mid-season comedy the show features Latino writers and voice-over actors, who dub the series into Spanish for air via secondary audio programming (SAP) technology.
