Famous Stars Caught On A Hidden Camera @ Univision.
September 16, 2002
Imagine the most outrageous pranks a candid camera show can come up with, and then play them on famous celebrities-that is exactly what Univision Network’s new show Qué Locura (That’s Crazy) does every week. For a hilarious hour, viewers get to see some of their favorite TV stars and recording artists being themselves in unexpected and awkward situations, sometimes reacting with humor and grace, others in surprisingly unflattering ways. Qué Locura premiered on the Network on October 5, 2002, and will air every Saturday, 7-8 p.m./6-7 p.m. Central.
Produced by Venezuela’s leading television network, Venevision, Qué Locura is hosted by funnyman Ernesto Cortez, a familiar face from the internationally successful comedy show Bienvenidos, which aired on Univision for several years. Every week, Cortez and the creative team behind Qué Locura think up wildly entertaining ways to put celebrities on the spot, then expertly carry them out by setting up the unwitting victim in “real” situations involving “real” people. The main objective is to make the famous person lose his/her cool, and see how he/she responds without knowing that a camera is rolling.
Some of the pranks include subjecting a victim to an uncomfortable interrogation by the security guard at the TV studio’s main gate, who pretends he does not recognize the star and rudely refuses to let him/her inside; having an obsessed fan become increasingly annoying and intrusive as he tries to get his picture taken with the celebrity at whatever cost; having the “police” arrest a star for an alleged crime; and an endless number of other ingenious situations.
Among the stars who have fallen for Qué Locura’s practical jokes are singers Jose Jose, Paty Manterola and Paty Navidad, actors Edith González, Lorena Herrera, Eduardo Palomo, Damari Lopez, Johnny Lozada, Arturo Peniche, and many more.
Because the show’s hidden camera catches the celebrities completely off guard, their reactions can be truly surprising. But in the end, once the prank is revealed, most turn out to be good sports and everyone has a great time.
