August 16, 2002
Alliance Hispanic Media (AHM) announced the launch of the first Spanish-language, daily newspaper in the U.S. to exclusively target the Mexican U.S. Hispanic community.
Diario de Mexico, a leading daily newspaper published by Grupo BRACA De Comunicacion out of Mexico City (“Distrito Federal”) since 1949, will begin publishing a U.S. edition Monday through Friday in the New York DMA with national rollout of 50,000 copies daily expected by the end of 2002. The initial NY DMA launch will be 20,000 copies daily building up to 30,000 in the NY DMA alone. U.S. Distribution of the daily will be handled exclusively by Trans Alliance Distributors, Inc. out of New York.
The four-color tabloid will be the first of it’s kind to offer U.S. based Mexican readers the latest news from Mexico, Puebla, and Guerrero, as well as local U.S. coverage of news affecting their community. A popular news publication among students and younger Mexico City residents, Diario de Mexico will target the 18-49 set with strong emphasis on breaking news, politics, entertainment and sports coverage. AHM will manage all U.S. operations including advertising, distribution (via Trans Alliance Distributors) and marketing.
According to AHM president and CEO, Roger Gonzalez, “Diario de Mexico is an established and recognizable brand among U.S. Mexicans and our combined ability to publish the same headlines in the U.S. as in Mexico puts this publication at the forefront of the largest ethnic Hispanic segment in the U.S.”
