Diana Sousa has been named Vice President, Corporate Communications for the Telemundo Network and mun2; she joins effective August 19, 2002. In her new position, Sousa will be responsible for directing public relations, media relations, events, and employee communications. The announcement was made by Jim McNamara, President and Chief Executive Officer, Telemundo Communications Group, Inc. In this newly created position, Sousa will report directly to Mr. McNamara.
“With more than 13 years as a GE business communicator, Diana brings a rich array of skills and talents to Telemundo and we are delighted to welcome her,” said President James McNamara. “She will play an important leadership role within our team as we continue to grow the company.”
Working closely with senior management and the network station managers, Sousa is charged with developing and implementing strategies to promote the company with key audiences and developing Telemundo’s communications function.
Sousa joins Telemundo from GE Corporate where she served as manager, corporate communications. She has been responsible for media relations, public relations, events, and print advertising for corporate initiatives: customer centricity, e-commerce and digitization, and diversity, as well as being the corporate media liaison for Japan, Korea, Thailand, Australia, and New Zealand. Prior to her corporate role, she led communications at GE Commercial Finance, GE Card Services and had a short-term assignment in communications with GE Aviation Services. She started her career at GE in 1989 as manager, corporate community relations.
A recipient of the 2002 Telly Award, Sousa has been recognized and honored by her peers. In 1999, a Public Relations Society of America chapter honored her with The Mercury Award in the Gold and Best of Show categories for a national print ad and direct mail campaign. She was also GE’s Hispanic Corporate Achiever in 1993 and was a three-time GE Capital Pinnacle trip winner.
She served as the President of the Board of Directors for Domestic Violence Services of Stamford, Connecticut and has been recognized by many non-profits for her volunteer achievements including United Way of Tri-State (NY, NJ, and CT), the Connecticut Council Against Domestic Violence, and the Stamford Board of Education.
