Radio Unica To Transmit President Vicente Fox’s Weekly Address.
April 29, 2002
In a development reflective of the closeness of current U.S.-Mexico ties, Miami-based, Radio Unica Network next month will begin broadcasting Mexican President Vicente Fox’s weekly address, right here in the United States.
President Fox’s weekly broadcasts will air every Saturday (time TBD) on the Radio Unica Network beginning June 1. As a precursor to President Fox’s weekly message, this Friday, May 24 at 12:00 noon [EDT]/ 11:00 a.m. [Mexico]/ 9:00 a.m. [PDT], Radio Unica will broadcast an exclusive, live, hour-long, interview with the Mexican President. This is the first time that a Mexican president will have a fixed time slot to broadcast a radio message to Mexicans residing in the United States. Ricardo Brown, veteran television newsman and current Radio Unica News Director, will conduct the interview direct from Fox’s presidential residence, Los Pinos, in Mexico City. It is expected to focus primarily on bilateral issues impacting the Mexican-American community, with immigration being chief among them. Given the importance to Hispanics of the topics to be discussed, Radio Unica will open up its toll-free phone line (1-800-522-1235) toward the end of the program, in order to give listeners an opportunity to question President Fox.
“Developments such as these all serve to underscore the vast importance gained by America’s Hispanic community in the past few years,” Mr. Blaya said. “President Fox’s interest in speaking regularly to Mexicans outside Mexico and President Bush’s interest in addressing U.S. Hispanics in their first language, both attest to that fact. That in each case they chose Radio Unica as the vehicle for communicating with their intended mass audience also bears witness to the relevance our network has achieved in just four short years.”
